SUCCESS Academy
Trust Land Report
Our School Land Trust plan has several facets but centers on improving students' learning skills prior to their entry into our program and as they progress through the program. A critical need for students in an Early College High School program is a firm foundation in learning and study skills prior to entry into an academically-rigorous college-preparatory curriculum. In an attempt to ensure that our students are ready for this experience, we will be requiring students to be involved in a learning and study skills boot camp in August prior to the beginning of their 9th grade year on the SUU campus and the beginning of their 10th grade year on the DSC campus. These camps will focus on helping students to become more effective learners. They will deal with the learning strategies and organizational skills necessary for success in a rigorous curriculum. We will also be requiring a summer math course for incoming 9th grade students on the SUU campus who have not had Algebra I or who had grades below a B in Algebra I their eight grade year and a summer math program for incoming 10th grade students on the DSC campus who are not Math 1010 ready. Solid math skills are critical to success in a program which has as its focus a science/math curriculum. Trust lands money will also be spent on salaries for our general summer remediation program on the SUU campus and for after school tutoring help on both campuses. This program works with students in the core academic subjects to ensure their successful mastery of key concepts. This plan supports the academic goals that we have established as a school. SUCCESS Academy has set the following student achievement goals. (1) All students will perform at a Level 3 or higher on the language arts, biology, and chemistry CRTs. (2) All students will improve their scores in all areas on the PSAT by 10 percentile points over the previous year. Our summer camps and our remediation programs support these school-wide goals.
